Answer:
Ouch I hope you are up for a real struggle, a stick AND voice is a tall order. You are going to need to start with a DSP chip, I would recommend the TMS320, its a good processor. You are also going to need something for controlling your devices, that means an FPGA, (or a microcontroller of your choice like an ATMEL part). You are going to need a joystick actuator from APEM Components or someone else good, I would recommend the 2V17F1100 but it is expensive. First thing is to gather your components and collect your wheelchair DC motor data, is it controlled by a word or a voltage? Write your VHDL program so that data comes in from the switch and goes out to the motor control board correctly. Then work on your DSP, you probabily want a look up table with 4 values so your voice can trigger one of the four commands. again, good luck.
