Questions & Answers
Question : Should the U.S. give weapons to the Afgan Millitary?
The Unites States handed over thousands of weapons and hundreds of vehicles to Afghanistan's fledgling national army on Thursday as part of its strategy to boost local security forces in the fight against the Taliban. Afghan President Hamid Karzai attended the handover of 800 High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicles and other trucks, and 12,000 heavy and light arms in Kabul. The Bush Administration is asking for 6 - 8 Billion more dollars to support the Afgan Military over the next 2 years. Question is will these weapons and equipment end up in the hands of terrorists as it did when the C.I.A supplied the Afgan military against the U.S.S.R?

Answer:
It seams that every time we give weapons to someone they eventually turn them on us. With that said I don't know what else we can do in order to help them git rid of terrorist. The same issue seams to be coming to the front in Iraq. We are training the people who will sooner or later turn on the US. The kidnapping of the soldiers a few days ago is proof of this truth. The kidnappers had US vehicles and uniforms.

Question : Dog Mobility Ramps?
I'd like to build a few mobility ramps for my aging dog who is finding it painful to use steps due to arthritis and hip dysplasia. I've checked the price of ready-made ones but many do not offer sufficient grip and each one is in the hundreds, and seeing as I need a few, I just cannot afford them. I haven't had much DIY experience in the past but am the kind of person who can usually do whatever I put my mind to. So can anyone tell me whether I'm being realistic? Also has anyone done this in the past who could offer me any advice or could you direct me to any sites with information on how to build them? I have some ideas but it would be a great help if I had instructions and information on what kind of equipment I would need. Thanks Yep, I've looked on ebay but all of the ramps I've seen anywhere are too flimsy/not suitable. We have a dog ramp for her to get in the car but she hates it because there's not much supporting it. I'd like to make some sturdy ones out of wood for steps leading out to and in the garden which I can leave out there in all weather.

Answer:
Of course you are being realistic, and very thoughtful if i may say so! Go for it, the weather's ideal to go outside and build your ramp! First, get all that you'll need, save you nipping out again. Go to B&Q or Wickes or any of those stores and get about 3 or 4 feet in length of medium thick MDF, 2 lengths of battening wood ( for the sides ), weatherproof nails ( about an inch and a half ) a box of panel pins ( an inch in length ), 3 or 4 feet of roofing felt ( for the grip or you can buy smaller bits of wood to make tiny step grips ), a pot of outdoor primer ( a small pot will do ) and a pot of weatherproof paint ( again, a small pot will do ), a claw hammer and a saw. Put the MDF against your step outside and see if its the correct length, if its not just saw a bit off. On one side, at the top, nail a piece of smaller wood to it to grip the step. Do this again at the bottom. Nail your side pieces to the sides of the MDF, pinning first with panel pins to make sure they're even, the nailing with the bigger nails when they are. Paint the whole lot with the primer, wait for it to dry, then give two coats of the weatherproof paint. When thats dry, either glue or panel pin the roofing felt on, making sure it goes over the sides ( to stop rain getting underneath it ). If your having the smaller steps, make sure these are primed and painted too and dont position them too far apart or your dog will slip. Your dog may be reluctant to use it at first as its not used to it but if you walk down it too, it will know its safe and follow your lead. Good luck and happy building! You'll be so proud of yourself that you've done it and you never know, you may get others asking you to make them one!
