doesn't help with pressure sores...

bought this for my elder mom who is disabled and this did not help any of her pressure sores or help prevent any of them it, it also didn't help her in her wheelchair.... wish this was better quality its also already starting to fall apart and only had it a few months.

Two Pads for Two Different Users

This low-cost pad has enhanced the lives of two elderly people whom I know, and has played an important part in reversing Stage 1 pressures sores for both of them. I hope it can help you avoid pressure sores in the first place. This pad has also reduced the discomfort of one person whose spine is now deformed. Here are some details.

I ordered the first of two pads for my dad, who has a bad heart. He spends a lot of time in a recliner and started to develop a Stage 1 pressure sore on his tailbone. He is now using this pad in his recliner and has trained himself to shift positions 4x per hour. This has healed the Stage 1 pressure sore on his tailbone.

On Sunday mornings I sit with the mother of a friend of mine whose spine is severely degenerated. She is no longer able to lie down because of an extreme spinal curvature, and as a result spends her days and nights in a recliner. I got her one of these pads and she uses it differently than my dad uses it. She is a very tiny woman (about 4'6") and so she sits on the thin side of the pad and leans on the thick side of the pad. We have customized the pad by cutting out two holes in the thick side. One hole is a long oval that goes through both layers of the thick side. This accommodates the protruding part of her spine, which had a Stage 1 pressure sore on it that is now entirely healed. We also cut a much smaller oval through the eggcrate layer only to accommodate her tailbone. Her tailbone had previously had a Stage 2 pressure sore that had already been healed to Stage 1 before we got the pad. Now that she uses the pad with the hole cut through the eggcrate layer of the thick side, the Stage 1 sore on the tailbone has also healed. This customized pad has also had a second benefit. Leaning back on her degenerated spine caused this lady a terrific amount of pain and discomfort. The use of the customized pad has changed this entirely. With the customized pad she is able to lean back in much less discomfort, which in turn allows her to sleep better. In addition to the customized pad, she uses a pellet-filled neck pillow that supports her head and neck in a healthy position.

I am now ordering a third pad so that the lady with the spinal curvature can have a back-up. She just had a heart attack and is in the hospital recovering nicely. Her daughter (my friend) is ready for a back-up pad because she has had to take the original pad to the hospital.

I hope these detailed descriptions can help you decide if this pad can help you or someone you know as much as it has helped my dad and the lady I sit with.

Good product

I bought this cushion for my mostly wheelchair-bound Mother who has a pinched nerve in her tailbone that causes constant discomfort. She has been using it now for a month, and seldom complains any more of her back pain, and she attributes it to the cushion. I can't imagine that a much more expensive cushion would work any better....great product, especially for such a small investment!! It is lightweight, and the cover washes beautifully.

works as designed

I have a bad back like so many other Americans. This cushion alleviates a big part of the unconfort of sitting in a chair for long hours. Not a lot to say other than it works as designed.

Junk, don't buy it...

I returned it. The foam is crap ad compresses to 1/4" Buy something in a plastic or heavy dense foam.

Complete waste of money

This cushion is a complete waste of money. The foam has no density, so as soon as you sit on it, it compresses completely. I weigh 135# and it doesn't hold me at all. It is also very small so it doesn't cover the seat of a standard office chair or car seat. I have used this type of cushion in the past with success. This particular brand is cheap and won't do the job. You definitely get what you pay for so spend a little more, get a more dense foam and a larger cushion.

Really HELPS when you sit at a desk all day!!!

These type of cushions really HELP when you have a primarily desk type job...can't work without it! It not only helps the tush and legs, but the hip joints and spinal column as well...makes a HUGE difference!

you need to learn how to sit on it

Basically it helps. But you do need to learn the correct way for yourself to sit on it. If you move all the stress from your tailbone to your lower back as I did, it would be no fun. So you have to learn how to balance, a subtle way to make both your tainlbone and your back ok.

wheel chair cushion

I bought this cushion for my brother who is in a wheelchair. It has helped him tremedously. He was getting pressure soars with his other pad, since using this product we were able to totally eliminate all pressure soars. He even uses it when riding in the vehicle by placing it on the seat. It has been a lifesaver, However, it is kind of expensive. I still feel overall it was worth the money because it has saved some on nurse care costs, and it is much more comfortable.
