Question : is this essay about periodontal disease good so far?
Without proper care of the teeth and the gingiva, periodontal disease could easily take over anyone’s mouth and could possibly mean the end to the teeth. This serious disease can be prevented or treated at an early stage by simply brushing and flossing. Periodontal disease is an infection of the structures that surround the teeth. It begins with food debris and plaque not being brushed or flossed off and they turn into bacteria that worsens and leads to puffiness in the gingiva. Plaque must be taken off the teeth by brushing and flossing twice a day to prevent infection., but it only takes 24 hours for plaque to build up again. A few things that can lower your defenses, and help cause some form of periodontal disease, are: smoking, diabetes, stress, medicine, pregnancy, puberty, AIDS, HIV, cancer, and even diet, to name a few. Gingivitis is the first stage of periodontal disease. Most people do not find out they have this condition until a dentist advises them of it. Signs of gingivitis are: red gums, inflamed gums, bleeding while brushing and/or flossing, sensitive gums, possible bad breath, or bad taste. Gingivitis can easily be treated by brushing, flossing and using a mouth wash and no real pain is usually associated with gingivitis. After gingivitis is left untreated, it can turn into mild periodontitis, moderate periodontitis, and finally advanced periodontitis. Signs of these forms of periodontitis are: more pronounced bleeding, longer looking teeth, gum boils, abscesses, periodontal pockets, and mobility of the teeth. When these signs are reached After the age of 35, 3 out of 4 adults have some form of periodontal disease, which can lead to tooth loss.

Question : Wan't to feel good about the USA . . . read this?
Americans Set Record for Charity in 2006 Monday June 25, 7:58 am ET By Vinnee Tong, AP Business Writer Americans Give Nearly $300 Billion to Charitable Causes in 2006, Set a New Record NEW YORK (AP) -- Americans gave nearly $300 billion to charitable causes last year, setting a new record and besting the 2005 total that had been boosted by a surge in aid to victims of hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma and the Asian tsunami. ADVERTISEMENT Donors contributed an estimated $295.02 billion in 2006, a 1 percent increase when adjusted for inflation, up from $283.05 billion in 2005. Excluding donations for disaster relief, the total rose 3.2 percent, inflation-adjusted, according to an annual report released Monday by the Giving USA Foundation at Indiana University's Center on Philanthropy. Giving historically tracks the health of the overall economy, with the rise amounting to about one-third the rise in the stock market, according to Giving USA. Last year was right on target, with a 3.2 percent rise as stocks rose more than 10 percent on an inflation-adjusted basis. "What people find especially interesting about this, and it's true year after year, that such a high percentage comes from individual donors," Giving USA Chairman Richard Jolly said. Individuals gave a combined 75.6 percent of the total. With bequests, that rises to 83.4 percent. The biggest chunk of the donations, $96.82 billion or 32.8 percent, went to religious organizations. The second largest slice, $40.98 billion or 13.9 percent, went to education, including gifts to colleges, universities and libraries. About 65 percent of households with incomes less than $100,000 give to charity, the report showed. "It tells you something about American culture that is unlike any other country," said Claire Gaudiani, a professor at NYU's Heyman Center for Philanthropy and author of "The Greater Good: How Philanthropy Drives the American Economy and Can Save Capitalism." Gaudiani said the willingness of Americans to give cuts across income levels, and their investments go to developing ideas, inventions and people to the benefit of the overall economy. Gaudiani said Americans give twice as much as the next most charitable country, according to a November 2006 comparison done by the Charities Aid Foundation. In philanthropic giving as a percentage of gross domestic product, the U.S. ranked first at 1.7 percent. No. 2 Britain gave 0.73 percent, while France, with a 0.14 percent rate, trailed such countries as South Africa, Singapore, Turkey and Germany. Mega-gifts, which Giving USA considers to be donations of $1 billion or more, tend to get the most attention, and that was true last year especially. Investment superstar Warren Buffett announced in June 2006 that he would give $30 billion over 20 years to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Of that total, $1.9 billion was given in 2006, which helped push the year's total higher. Gaudiani said that gift reflects a growing focus on using donated money efficiently and effectively. "I think it's also a strategic commitment to upward mobility exported to other countries, in the form of improved health and stronger civil societies," she said. The Gates Foundation has focused on reducing hunger and fighting disease in developing countries as well as improving education in the U.S. Without Buffett's pledge, it had an endowment of $29.2 billion as of the end of 2005. Meanwhile, companies and their foundations gave less in 2006, dropping 10.5 percent to $12.72 billion. Jolly said corporate giving fell because companies had been so generous in response to the natural disasters and because profits overall were less strong in 2006 over the year before. The Giving USA report counts money given to foundations as well as grants the foundations make to nonprofits and other groups, since foundations typically give out only income earned without spending the original donations.

Answer:
Tocqueville noticed this about Americans when he toured the country in the 1830s. Our ancestors didn't wait for government programs. They organized themselves in free associations and volunteered to get it done themselves. Charitable giving is part of this great tradition.

Question : Can anyone help?...............Has anyone ever had this and what did they say it was?
I started a year ago with backache, the pain was so severe, within 3 weeks i lost the mobility in my left leg, i went to a consultant in this field and they did mri scans, they said it wasn't siatica, slipped discs or ttrapped nerves as my spine was ok, a bit of wear and tear but ok. I have been in continuall pain for a year now living on one of the highest tablets they can give you (oxycontin 80mg 3x per day) and paracetamol in the middle of taking these along with using my tens machine so i can have a bit of mobility. I can not walk without the aid of crutches, and i can not get up the stairs anymore without crutches and two people helping me up them. To go farther than 5mtrs i need a wheelchair. I am now on anti-depressants due to the pain being so bad i tried to end my life, i have also been told i need an hysterectomy but can not have it because of my immobility. Has anyone ever suffered with anything like this, did they diagnose it?, What was it? please help...

Answer:
I was like this for years, they finally told me just over 2 years ago that I was born with a loose hip joint and it had totally worn away! (I was 37 at the time lol) As a result, arthritis had set in in my hip, pelvis and femur. I had my hip replaced but it is not very stable due to the arthritis. Over the years I have had several x-rays and lots of physio for my 'back' as the doctors said it was as a result of owning horses! (Everyone with horses has a bad back lol) I still cannot work out how it was all missed for so long! I still walk with crutches now, although I can poter about indoors but I have to be careful as if I fall that is it, wheelchair here I come! Mine is my left hip. I was also told at one point that I needed a hysterectomy as one doctor said I was suffering from endometriosis - an internal scan put paid to that lol I now take Co-Codamol 30/500mg 2 tablets four times a day, and 300mg of Pregablin twice a day - this is an anti-epilepsy drug which works on chronic pain by sending different messages to the nerves, it hasn't cured it for me and the side effects are awful until your body has adjusted but it has made my pain manageable and I have been back at work for 6 months now. Obviously I am not saying this is what is wrong with you as I am not a doctor, but a lot of what you are describing is very familiar so surely it is worth asking! Good luck and please don't try to end your life. Feel free to email me if you would like to xx
